WOW! What a long day.
With 5 games on the schedule, the goal was easy for Derek and Angie, divide and conquer. We all left for the games at 9:30 am and did not return home until 11:00 pm. It was nothing but driving and ball all Saturday.
Connor's games were played at the Hillcrest Union field in Midvale. His first was against a team he had just lost to one week ago. The team got down on early mistakes, but battled back to eventually win. Connor went 0-for-2 with an RBI but was robbed when he hit a line drive that the second baseman made a nice play and turned it into a double play.
His next game he got a little redemtion. He came to bat in the same situation as the first game, bases loaded, but this time there was two out. He hit a line shot over the shortstops head for a 2-run single keeping the inning alive. The next batter hit one over the left field fence and the route was on. The Bombers finished the day 2-0.
Hannah's games were a little different, but was to be expected. Because there are no 8 & Under divisions in accelerated softball, Hannah's team, The Hot Shotz, signed up in the 10 & Under tournament with the coach knowing they would get their clock cleaned, which they did, but not as bad as they expected.
Hannah was visibly nervous her first at bat. She took the sign as she was given and tried to bunt but missed. She eventually struck out. Her other two at bats during the day she was able to get on base with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. She got hit pretty hard on the leg but there were no tears. When she stole second base, it was a little different. The shortstop, who was bigger than her older brother, fell on top of her as she tried to leap in the air for the ball. Hannah was safe at the base but took the brunt of the fall. She was fine and the Hot Shotz learned an awful lot about themselves as they hung with some pretty good talent. If this team stays together, they will be fun to watch when they are in this 10 & Under tournament as 10-year-old.
The real hero of the day was Emilie. That's a lot of watching for a 5-year-old and she did it with minimal complaint. By the end of the day she had found a new friend with a sister of one of Hannah's teammates.
Games this week will again keep us busy. Hannah plays in Taylorsville on Thursday and Saturday, while Connor will be at Hillcrest on Thursday and Hunter Park on Saturday.
